The Center for Data Science in the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to work on health professions education projects.

The post-doctoral scholar will participate in multidisciplinary research projects that apply learning science, data science, immersive learning technologies (.

virtual reality, machine learning), and biosensing technologies to develop novel methods to enhance and predict human learning and performance.

The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to various aspects of the study, including research design, research protocol and instrument development, literature review, data collection and management, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, development of analysis reports and publications for peer-reviewed journals, and development of grant proposals to funding agencies.

JOB DESCRIPTION : Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.

The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc.

Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff.

Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available.

Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : A doctoral degree or equivalent (., ., ScD., ., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.

The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : . in bioengineering, learning science and technology, educational psychology, or related disciplines before the start date.

Experiences in using biosensing technologies (., EEG, HRV) to collect human data and analyzing them for psychological / pedagogical interpretations (.

engagement, stress, anxiety) to improve human learning and performance are preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as is the ability to work in a cross-functional team.

The initial appointment will be for one year, beginning July 1, 2024 or later. Re-appointment for a second year is dependent on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
