The Special Education Teacher plans and provides developmentally appropriate education programs that support the optimal growth and development of each child.
Acts as a liaison between SMH and outside agencies (CPSE) in order to coordinate appropriate educational programs. Supports Hospital's mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Develops lesson plan for the class that addresses all areas of development and addresses each child’s IEP.
2. Selects and prepares developmentally appropriate education materials.
3. Ensures that the department goals, procedures and practices foster a learning environment.
4. Organizes and directs the Teacher Assistants and Paraprofessionals to accomplish required activities in an efficient and effective manner.
5. Ensures safe programming and environment.
6. Develops and implements system documentation necessary to maintain accountability and compliance with the CPSE, SED., Bureau of Day Care;
and all other relevant regulatory agencies with oversight to the Early Education program.
7. Participates in the planning for community school placement for each child upon
graduation from the preschool.
8 . Complies with Bureau of Day Care and State Education Department regulations in regard to student’s IEP, mandates, documentation of service, session notes, etc.
9. Complies with all infection control, safety and confidentiality guidelines.
10. Works collaboratively with related service providers and all support staff as necessary.
11. Completes Annual Review Reports, Turning 5 reports, Quarterlies, and submits in timely fashion.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
12. Participates in Quality Improvement Activities.
13. Plans and prepares for celebrations, field trips, and graduation as necessary.
14. Participates in department wide trainings as appropriate.
