The Risk Analyst has responsibility for maintaining the overall control environment and assessing compliance with the Trading Risk Management Policy.
The middle office, independent of the front office, has an obligation to escalate risk issues to the necessary commercial, financial, risk, or other senior management.
This role will ultimately be required to assure the data integrity through both deal and curve validation processes and executing the risk monitoring and reporting requirements of the respective governing committees or bodies.
This middle office function role will oversee the full scope of business activities of the GCC Supply & Trading businesses, including crude, oil based refined products, and any potential new business such as natural gas and power markets.
The position will be located in the GCC S&T office based in Houston, Texas directly reporting to the Senior Risk Control Manager under the Finance Function overseen by the Chief Financial Officer for Gulf Coast Commodities LLC.
Responsibilities
- Product Control : Deal Capture Daily responsibility for ensuring the data feed for all exchange traded futures and cleared swaps in the brokerage account is complete, accurate and has been captured timely in the ETRM.
- Product Control : Deal Validation Daily responsibility for independently verifying the deal terms of all physical transactions captured in the ETRM to ensure data integrity for deal entry by the front office.
Any discrepancies will require follow up with the traders and to be resolved by the close of business day prior to running any daily management reporting and initiation of the Daily Confirmations control function.
Product Control : Deal Settlements Daily assistance with coordination between the Commercial / Operations and Back Office Settlements functions to ensure that Aspect has been properly updated prior to any hand offs to Back Office Settlements for invoicing and / or payments.
This role will also support the Finance Cash Function by teaming with Commercial / Operations to assist with projecting the timing of future cash flows for physical transactions.
Product Control : Portfolio Structure Management Sole responsibility for maintaining and any modifications to the existing book structure.
Any requested changes to the book structure and / or movement of existing transactions will require approval and then be made by this middle office role.
Market Risk : Tradebook Measurement Daily assistance and / or responsibility for validating the completeness and accuracy of all direct price feeds from pricing sources.
Any manual pricing updates in the ETRM will require updating by this middle office role. Act as Primary Contact for VaR, including Creation of New Instruments, Import of Historical Price Data and periodic review of Returns to ensure accuracy.
Market Risk : P&L and Position Reporting Assistance with the running and distribution of the Daily Profit & Loss and Exposure report to the Commercial team and Senior level management.
Analyze realized and unrealized profits and losses on a regular basis and assist with the preparation of internal management reporting to provide a summary of the results and key drivers for the period.
Monitor and coordinate with Commercial regarding expenses on a monthly basis to use as baseline metric for trading performance.
Financial Close : T2F Supports the monthly financial close process by assisting with the Tradebook to Financials (T2F) process to identify any differences between Aspect and MS Business Central.
Works with the Back Office to ensure that an accurate final snapshot of Aspect has been provided for monthly Financial Reporting.
- Financial Close : Pricing Supports the monthly financial close process by providing Back Office with the required pricing and deal information for any mark-to-market entries for inventory.
- Cross-functional support Participate in special projects and support other back office and front office functions as needed.
- IT Systems Key role with the integration process of the ETRM, Mass Balance and ERP systems, be a key member in developing the integration interface of these systems.

- Processes and Procedures Improvement Analysis of current middle office processes to develop, formalize and implement improved efficiencies and analytics as deemed necessary.

Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in a Finance or Middle Office role.
- Experience working in a growing start up environment strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or Economics.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Experience in the energy trading industry.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work without direct supervision, and efficiently manage tasks and time.
