job_description.job_card.job_descriptionNights. On-call shifts. High school diploma or equivalent Certification through IAHCSMM preferred. Current knowledge on AAMI standards and regulations. Current BLS or obtain with 6 months of hire. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment required. Sterile conscious required. Ability to deal with ambiguity. Cognitive skills as related to the position. Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital / clinic. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard. Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines. Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard. Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines. Continuously utilizes manual / bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing. Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye / hand coordination and color definition. Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and / or carry up to 40 lbs. Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.

PURPOSE STATEMENT
A Central Sterile Technician is a professional who assists the surgical team. The Central Sterile Technician must be able to anticipate the needs of the unit. The Technician must maintain strict sterile technique and follow current guidelines. The central sterile technician works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager of the unit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for overseeing the cleaning, packaging sterilization, and distribution of reusable instrumentation.
- Responsible to maintain infection control and Joint Commission standards in the work area.
- Organize inventories and maintain sterile instrument inventory system for assigned services.
- Maintain instruments in appropriate standards and coordinates repairs for surgical services as needed.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other essential duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned by their supervisor or manager.
