Job Overview
The department has approximately 1,500 undergraduate students and a strong interest in pedagogical techniques and research experiences that enhance student success.
The university also has instructional support services such as the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning and the University Learning Commons, and close relationships with local organizations, such as the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, the Cincinnati Museum Center, and the nearby US Environmental Protection Agency’s National Exposure Research Laboratory.
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for an Assistant Professor - Educator position to teach Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) I and II lectures, and serve as course coordinator.
The position will start in August 2024 with teaching commencing at the start of the Fall 2024 semester. The A&P sequence is a combined lecture and laboratory course that primarily serves students from the Colleges of Nursing, Allied Health, and Pharmacy.
Our departmental faculty have a deep interest in inclusive teaching, a proven record of excellence and quality in instruction, and can provide informal mentoring on incorporating active learning into large enrollment lectures.
Essential Functions
- Instruct large enrollment A&P lecture sections, typically two sections of A&P I (BIOL 2001C) in the Fall and two sections of A&P II (BIOL 2002C) in Spring Semester.
- As course coordinator, will coordinate the course overall and supervise the lab coordinator to ensure that content in the lecture and laboratory sections align.
Also supervise undergraduate Learning Assistants and Supplemental Instructor students assigned to assist with the lecture sections.
Engage in additional service activities as assigned by Department Head, such as but not limited to serving on the Research Advisory Committee for individual graduate students and on a departmental committee focused on undergraduate education.
Minimum Requirements
Prior to the effective date of appointment, both of the following :
- Master’s degree in Biology or a related area
- One academic year of teaching experience in college-level Anatomy & Physiology
