Wage and Investment Customer Assistance, Relationship and Education -Field Assistance - Area 1

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level :

• Assists and advises taxpayers in meeting their Federal Tax obligations, covering individual income, excise, and employment taxes.
• Conducts interviews with taxpayers to determine their tax situation and provides advice.
• Discusses tax law impact with tax practitioners and accountants.
• Confers with taxpayers to explain issues involving tax law and account adjustments.
• Assists taxpayers in preparing tax returns and explains the consequences of courses of action.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
• Must successfully complete a background investigation.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement :

GENERAL EXPERIENCE FOR GS-05 :

You must have three years of general experience, including one year at a level equivalent to GS-04. General experience includes analyzing problems, gathering data, and communicating effectively.

OR EDUCATION :

You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows : 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.

OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION :

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07 :

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05. Specialized experience includes knowledge of business practices and Federal tax laws.

OR EDUCATION :

You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows : 1 year of graduate education in a relevant field.

OR SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT :

May be met by having a Bachelor's degree with a GPA of 2.95 or higher.

OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION :

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION FOR GS-09 :

You must have one year of specialized experience at GS-07 level. Specialized experience includes knowledge of tax-related issues and the ability to analyze financial documents.

OR EDUCATION :

You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows : a master's degree in a relevant field.

OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION :

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

Education

Additional Information

• Subject to a 1-year probationary period.
