Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.
AMNH’s Rose Center Engineering team is seeking a full-time Systems Administrator. They work with the Electronic Media Engineering staff to maintain production systems and pipelines;
systems related to the Hayden Planetarium digital dome and the Invisible Worlds Theater and video, audio and interactive systems throughout the Museum.
Key duties include the daily preparation of multi-channel playback systems, emergency support and repairs (as needed) and support for a render farm, storage and servers.
Job duties include :
- Perform the daily preparation of the theaters.Troubleshoot multi-projector blended displays and image generators.Prepare the Planetarium, Invisible Worlds and Climate Wall theaters.
- Provide emergency support / repairs as needed.
- Handle Systems administration and support in the context of science-based visualization, media production or video production.
- Assist the team with development of new systems designs.
- Configure computers, KVMs and transmission equipment.
- Automate routine processes and procedures.
The expected salary range for the Systems Administrator is $80,000 / annual $105,000 / annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities.
The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience. Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with computer systems administration.
- Experience with Linux operating systems, including scripting skills.
- Ability to work some nights / weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- College-level degree in any field relevant to the job duties (, science, art, computer science, engineering, etc.).
- Knowledge of 3D applications, hardware / software rendering pipelines and SAN implementations.
- Experience with special effects software and CGI pipelines.
- Knowledge of video codecs and encoding.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
