Learning Enterprises Volunteer PY24

Learning Enterprises
Washington, DC, US
Full-time

Job Description

Job Description

A Learning Enterprises Volunteer will spend a summer (specific dates range by program) teaching English in a host community.

Lessons usually last between 3-6 hours, and students are of all ages and skill-levels. We are looking for creative, independent and thoughtful individuals who will represent themselves, their countries and our organization well.

It is important to note that being an LE volunteer does not end in the classroom - a volunteer is a member of the community, of their host family and of the organization.

Volunteers need to be constantly respectful, helpful and open to new experiences. This is a round-the-clock job and requires volunteers' time during pre-departure training in the months leading up to departure, time spent in program country and after programming.

Fundraising is part of being a Learning Enterprises' volunteer.

LE is a unique cross-cultural experience and our programs thrive best (and our mission is best preserved!) when our volunteers fully immerse themselves into both their program and their host communities.

As such, we require that volunteers participate in their programs as individuals. We understand that volunteers may want to have friends or family visit them in their host communities.

To preserve LE's mission, your commitment to the program, and mitigate the inconvenience to your host family and community, we highly discourage this.

Requirements

Volunteers need to be 18 years or older upon the start of the program. Experience in the classroom is not necessary, but tremendously helpful.

Overall, an LE volunteer is required to be flexible, hard-working, open to new experiences and cultures, and dedicated to the organization and its ideals.

NOTE : You do not have to be attending a university in order to apply. If you do not currently attend a university, please write N / A in the required Education section.

Benefits

Learning Enterprises provides equal volunteer opportunities to all applicants and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.

This policy applies to all terms and conditions of volunteering with Learning Enterprises, including recruiting, offering, placement, promotion to staff positions, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, and training.
