Percent time : 33% - 100%

Anticipated start : Appointments for fall semester are usually reviewed in April and May. Appointments for spring semester are usually reviewed in October and November.

Position description

The Department of Film & Media at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach undergraduate-level studio courses in creative film and / or digital media production.

Course themes could include areas in documentary / essay, dramatic fiction, animation, experimental or other expanded digital-media practices.

Technique centered courses in cinematography, sound design and post-production also considered. Studio course design should integrate theoretical and critical approaches to media study into hands-on production technique and forms.

Applicants should demonstrate creative and technical expertise, but also a strong commitment to teaching media production within a liberal and fine arts curriculum at a large, diverse, public research university.

General Duties : In addition to teaching responsibilities and demonstration of production technologies general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.

g., syllabus), and interacting with students outside of class time via email and campus web-based course resources.

For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position.

The department is unable to provide a visa / work permit.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in teaching creative digital film and media production at the college level in the U.S.
  • Completed MA / MFA (or equivalent international degree) in Film and / or Media (or a Humanities field)
