JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary :

The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (OGPA) works to advance graduate and postdoctoral programs and enhance the graduate student and postdoctoral fellow experience at the George Washington University.

Its mission is to provide support to students, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and faculty engaging in graduate-level work and research by establishing and facilitating communication and cooperation among GW schools and colleges that support graduate education, and by providing guidance for graduate students and postdocs to ensure academic success, professional growth, and wellness.

Through these efforts, OGPA is committed to fostering a greater sense of community and connection for graduate students by creating engaging and valuable experiences.

OGPA includes the Office of Graduate Affairs (OGA) and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA). This position fully supports the operations of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.

The Program Associate will serve as the liaison between postdoctoral fellows, central units, schools, and postdoctoral mentors.

This position serves as an institutional-wide point of contact and advocate for the GW postdoctoral community. The individual will be responsible for working with departments and other central units such as Human Resources and the International Services Office, on the recruitment, appointment and re-appointment, and onboarding of new postdoctoral fellows.

They will assist in creating and communicating policies and best practices associated with GW postdoctoral work. The Program Associate will work closely with the GW Postdoc Association and other GW entities to support, enhance, and create a broad spectrum of services and opportunities for the postdoctoral community, including the coordination of professional development events.

Many postdoctoral events are also relevant to the graduate student community, and the Program Associate will work with other OGPA staff in expanding these services and creating other social networking and professional development opportunities for the graduate student community.
