As the Food Safety and Quality Systems Lead, you will bring a solid technical background and expertise in food safety methods to regulate and support the product development process.

With a deep understanding of the food industry and current safety trends, you will approach the role with curiosity and a passion for product development.

This is a part-time, in-person role based in our Boston office, with an occasional need to visit our Cambridge facility. The weekly hourly expectation is approximately 24 hours.

WHAT YOU WILL DO :

  • Implement and maintain food safety programs and Quality Management Systems, including company standards and SOPs, ensuring all processes and documentation meet required standards.
  • Develop and conduct training programs for new hires and retrain existing staff as necessary, keeping detailed records of participation and success.
  • Coordinate microbiological and analytical testing of production samples, approve sample releases, and liaise with clients' quality departments.
  • Maintain meticulous records and documentation related to food safety and QMS processes.
  • Serve as the primary contact for quality and food safety audits, preparing for audits, presenting documents, and addressing compliance issues.

Responsible for facilitating non-conformance / CAPA program.

  • Conduct off-site audits of contract manufacturers and suppliers as required.
  • Stay informed on current food safety trends, best practices, and regulations.
  • Lead all food safety initiatives, including managing recalls, client requests, pest control, document control, allergen control, incident management, and the food defense plan.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA and USDA regulations.
  • Consult with teams to identify potential food safety challenges or best practices during product development and production.
  • Develop HACCP plans in collaboration with teams to ensure GMP compliance throughout production.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO CHEW

Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field required; advanced degrees or certifications in food safety or quality management (e.

g., Certified Food Safety Professional, HACCP certification, PCQI) are preferred.

  • 5+ years in Food Safety and Quality Assurance : Proven experience in food safety, quality assurance, or a related field within the food industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of FDA and USDA regulations and experience ensuring compliance with these standards.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and maintaining HACCP plans and other food safety programs.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in maintaining records and documentation and ensuring compliance with food safety protocols.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and liaise with vendors, suppliers, and clients.
