The Global Engineering & Facilities function is looking for a Senior Industrial Engineer to be accountable for subject matter expertise in operational process improvements and modelling related to utilization and efficiency of manufacturing equipment, process unit operations, utilities, and facilities.

The following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role.

The Senior Industrial Engineer will be accountable for developing and communicating manufacturing equipment productivity improvement plans based on business needs, equipment utilization and efficiency indicators and benchmark, implementing and using lean six sigma methodologies and real-life-data driven computerized manufacturing process models.

This data will be used to support investments in new manufacturing equipment or in modifications of existing equipment, automation or operating principles.

This role will work in close cooperation with several operational improvement stakeholders at global level and will interact with senior management on all Biogen manufacturing sites.

This is a hybrid role that can be based either in our RTP, NC facility or Solothurn, CH facility.

What You’ll Do

Create / maintain the manufacturing processes models using the Intelligen suite of software in collaboration with Site Scheduling, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering.

Improve manufacturing processes models to include raw materials and utilities consumptions, wastewater emissions (quantitative and qualitative) and manufacturing labor associated with every manufacturing process step.

  • Set-up tools and processes to collect, analyze and validate real life data from process equipment and operations to feed / confirm the models.
  • Interpret the models to identify the bottlenecks and mitigations and present the analysis to all stakeholders to determine the path forward.
  • Develop productivity improvement strategy and measurements based on business needs and industry benchmark and related to utilization and efficiency of manufacturing equipment, process unit operations, utilities, and facilities.
  • Contribute to cost of goods manufactured models based on manufacturing process models.

Who You Are

This individual should have an advanced understanding of manufacturing processes and a proven ability to apply his / her expertise to solve complex problems.

He / she should have experience working on complex processes and problems, taking on leadership roles as appropriate, and have demonstrated an ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver results.

Demonstrated her / his ability to distill the learnings from models, calculations, and advanced methods into easily digestible communications (both written and oral) suited to a variety of stakeholders and to communicate her / his conclusions and scenarios to manufacturing operations leaders and decision makers at senior and executive level.

Qualifications

Required Skills :

Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 10-12 years of experience in process industry (pharma, biotech, chemicals, food, oil&gas, energy, automotive, etc.

including at least 5 years in a process improvement role using computerized process modeling tools.

  • Experience with setting up and deploying manufacturing productivity improvement business processes.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in manufacturing process efficiency measurements and analytics (OEE ).
  • Demonstrated experience working in a matrix environment with cross-functional teams.
  • Equivalent education and experience may also be considered.

Preferred Skills :

Experience working with Intelligen suite software.
