- Safety : Consistently follows the National Patient Safety Goals including following Universal Protocol and identifying patient’s utilizing 2 patient identifiers.
- Demonstrates use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self, and patient’s.
- Unit Specific Job Function : Demonstrates knowledge of the conditions / diagnoses, procedures and equipment encountered for surgical patient’s.
- Individualizes patient care according to the procedure and type of anesthesia across the continuum of care.
- Assesses patient reaction and understanding of procedure / instructions.
- Responsibility and Accountability : Contributes to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care by prioritizing the care of patient’s depending on their needs and any changes in their condition.
- Patient Education and Chart Completion : Assesses patient’s understanding of surgical procedure / instructions, actively including the patient and family members in teaching.
- Performs pre-operative and postoperative assessment and education.
- Duties Specific to PAT RN : Supports the completion of patient testing in a timely manner.
- Evaluates Pre Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and for potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and current state of health.
