Onsite Position :

This position is in Phoenix, Arizona and is considered to be Fully Onsite, work is to be done onsite at a PetSmart location (Phoenix Home Office, PetSmart stores, Merchandise Development Center, Distribution Centers or another PetSmart site).

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for overseeing the optimization of our distribution network and the management of supply chain systems.

This role’s leadership will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless flow of goods and services while leveraging technology to drive efficiency and visibility across the supply chain.

This role will play a pivotal role in the management and optimization of supply chain systems, including warehouse management, transportation management, and inventory management systems.

This role’s ability to integrate technology, regulatory compliance, and labor management standards will be key to enhancing operational excellence and driving sustainable growth.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for directly supervising 3+ professionals, both individual contributors and leaders. .

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to :

Leadership and Strategy : Spearhead the development and execution of strategic initiatives to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of our distribution network.

Provide visionary leadership to the distribution engineering team, setting clear objectives, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Distribution Network Optimization : Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimize distribution networks that are tailored to meet the evolving needs of the organization.

Leverage advanced analytics, modeling techniques, and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement and cost-effectiveness.

Technology Integration : Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in distribution engineering, such as automation, robotics, and IoT solutions.

Evaluate and deploy cutting-edge tools and systems to streamline processes, enhance visibility, and mitigate risks across the distribution network.

Labor Management Standards : Develop and maintain labor management standards to optimize workforce productivity, efficiency, and safety within distribution facilities.

Implement best practices for labor planning, scheduling, performance measurement, and workforce training to maximize operational effectiveness and minimize labor cost Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes impacting labor management practices, and incorporate relevant updates into existing standards.

Identify industry-leading best practices for labor planning, scheduling, performance measurement, and workforce training through research, benchmarking, and collaboration with industry peers.

Supply Chain Systems Management : Oversee the development, implementation, and optimization of supply chain systems, including warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and inventory management systems.

Ensure seamless integration between supply chain systems and distribution network operations to drive efficiency and visibility across the supply chain.

Stakeholder Collaboration : Foster effective and productive partnerships with internal stakeholders, including supply chain management, logistics, procurement, and manufacturing teams.

Collaborate closely with external partners, such as suppliers, carriers, and regulatory agencies, to optimize collaboration and drive mutual success.

  • Talent Development and Leadership : Attract, retain, and develop top talent within the distribution engineering team. Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to empower team members and foster a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting : Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the performance and effectiveness of distribution engineering initiatives.

Regularly assess performance against established targets, identify areas for improvement, and communicate insights and recommendations to senior leadership.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferably in Logistics / Supply Chain, IE, or Business.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in distribution engineering, logistics, or supply chain management, with a proven track record of leadership and achievement.
  • Retail or grocery supply chain background a plus.
  • Deep technical expertise in distribution network design, optimization, and implementation.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and lead cross-functional teams to deliver results.
  • Requires written and verbal communication skills to effectively present information to all levels of leadership.
  • Requires effective facilitation skills. Must be able to work independently in fast paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
  • Candidate must have outstanding leadership, talent development, and human relations skills to build effective relationships with peers, leadership, and business partners.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, and other systems as required.
  • Proficient skills in relevant software tools and platforms, such as network modeling software (e.g., Llamasoft, JDA), WMS (e.

g., Manhattan Associates, Oracle WMS), TMS (e.g., MercuryGate, SAP TM), ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and data analytics tools (e.

g., Tableau, Power BI).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Lean Six Sigma Certification : Certification in Lean Six Sigma methodologies, such as Green Belt or Black Belt, demonstrating proficiency in process improvement techniques and the ability to drive operational excellence in distribution and supply chain management strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License : Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) license in relevant disciplines such as mechanical, industrial, or logistics engineering is strongly preferred.
