Part-time instructional position at Alexander Correctional Institution.
Part-time faculty members provide instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, as-needed basis. Courses may be seated, online, or hybrid.
Part-time faculty postings are a part of Catawba Valley Community College's efforts to expand our pool of adjunct instructors.

Examples of Duties
Instruct all Horticulture course offerings at Alexander Correctional Institution (AXCI) through CVCC's Workforce Development Innovation Center.
Teach Horticulture topics / theory and hands-on skills, both in a classroom setting and a greenhouse environment, to a group of students in a maximum-security correctional setting.
Maintain greenhouse facilities and plants for courses and inventory of supplies when appropriate.
Must attend instructor orientation provided by the correctional institution prior to entering the prison classroom to teach.
Compliance with rules & guidelines set forth by the correctional institution while in the prison setting is required. Any failure to comply with these rules & guidelines will result in disciplinary action & possible loss of access to correctional institution & termination of position with the college.
Successful passage of Criminal Background Check.
Qualifications
Associate's degree in Horticulture.
Minimum of three years experience working in the horticulture field. Experience in teaching / training adult learners will be a plus.
Must be at ease working in a correctional setting with inmates, flexible, organized with attention to details, assertive, possess excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with possible conflict in a calm, orderly manner.
Must be able to maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, etc. Must be able to work as part of a team and must value collaboration;
possess excellent teaching skills and an educational philosophy that is compatible with the mission of the community college.
