The Position

Verve is seeking a Scientist / Sr Scientist within the Analytical Research and Development team, to develop and implement biophysical and separation methods and technologies to characterize mRNA, gRNA and LNP-encapsulated gRNA and mRNA.

This individual will be interfacing with a cross-functional team to design, develop and support phase-appropriate analytical methods to enable Verve’s growing gene editing pipeline.

The position will be part of an integrated R&D team that aims to advance preclinical gene editing candidates into the clinic and work closely with discovery and process development groups.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and execute analytical methods intended for a variety of purposes, including product characterization, high throughput analysis, and characterization of complex raw materials.
  • Review, interpret, and present data within the analytical team and cross-functionally.
  • Provide technical oversight for troubleshooting and phase-appropriate qualification of analytical assays for the analysis of gRNA, mRNA and LNP.
  • Assist in authoring, reviewing, revising technical source documents to support phase appropriate comparability.
  • The successful candidate may also provide technical oversights to guide analytical / QC investigations, as needed.
  • Train and mentor junior team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or related life sciences field with strong scientific background.
  • M.S. in Chemistry, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or related life sciences field with strong scientific background with 4+ years’ relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of related industry experience.
  • Hands on experience developing and troubleshooting analytical methods applied to complex and heterogenous systems (e.g.

HPLC / UPLC, capillary electrophoresis, cryoTEM, NMR, MALS, DLS, NTA, etc.).

  • Previous experience developing methods for gRNA, mRNA, LNP.
  • Advanced competence in operating and troubleshooting HPLC / UPLC instrumentation.
  • Conceptual understanding of solid phase oligonucleotide synthesis and purification strategies.
  • Must have hands-on experience analyzing DNA / RNA by a variety of techniques (e.g. IP-RP, IEX, LC-fluor, multi-modal LC, etc.).
  • Advanced understanding of lipid nanoparticle delivery, production and purification.
  • Familiarity with applicable ICH regulations and multi-compendial guidelines related to method validations.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.
