Staff Full-Stack Software Engineer, Automation (Hybrid, 3-Days in the Palo Alto, CA Office)

Job Description

We seek an exceptional, highly skilled, and experienced Staff Full-Stack Software Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team.

This position offers the unique opportunity to build an innovative robotic platform to automate the sample-preparation processes for Guardant Health Screening and Oncology testing.

An ideal candidate must have strong, proven experience in building and maintaining full-stack software as microservices architecture in a Linux environment.

Previous experience working on automation solutions and robotics in a highly regulated, process-oriented environment is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities :

Software Design and Development : Architect and implement software solutions that align with business goals and meet high-quality standards.

Ensure code follows best practices and is optimized for performance and scalability. Create robust, scalable, and maintainable microservices using the Python FastAPI framework and integrate with PostgreSQL databases.

Develop front-end components using React integrated with the backend.

Code Review & Mentorship : Conduct thorough code reviews to maintain code quality and consistency across the team. Mentor and coach junior engineers to help them grow, improve their coding skills, and use best software practices.

Work closely with software test engineers, review test cases, and evaluate test quality and coverage.

Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with product stockholders and cross-functional engineers to gather requirements and define use cases.

Clearly articulate technical concepts such as software solutions, architecture, designs, limitations, and anomalies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Provide regular updates on project progress and challenges.

Qualifications

• Technical Expertise :
• Minimum industry experience of 8+ years with a bachelor’s, 6+ years with a master's, 3+ years with a PhD degree in CS or equivalent.
• Strong experience with Python and FastAPI for backend development.
• Proficiency in front-end development using React.
• Deep understanding of PostgreSQL for database design, optimization, and management.
• Solid experience working in a Linux environment.
• Experience & Skills :
• Proven track record of designing and implementing microservices architectures.
• Experience in software design patterns, code reviews, and refactoring.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
• Ability to gather requirements, formulate use cases, and translate them into technical solutions.
• Leadership & Mentorship :
• Experience in mentoring and coaching engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and drive decision-making.
• Desirable Qualifications :
• Previous experience working on .NET WPF applications.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Familiarity with CI / CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and infrastructure as code.

Hybrid Work Model : At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person / onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time.

All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $172,500 to $232,800. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk / office environment;

however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
