Nursing Technicians hired before 4 / 1 / 17 must have BLS certification by 4 / 30 / 18. Those hired on or after 4 / 1 / 17 must have certification upon hire or obtain it during orientation.

Must-Have : Completion of Nursing Technician Orientation Job Description : Perform patient care and non-patient care functions within scope of practice under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.

• Conduct Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), monitor vital signs, and measure inputs and outputs (I&O).- Perform EKGs, document vital signs and I&O.
• Assist with simple dressing changes, specimen collection, meals, errands, and patient or specimen transport.- Ambulate patients, provide urinary drainage care (indwelling, external, suprapubic), and assist with colostomy care.
• Apply binders, weigh patients, assist healthcare providers with procedures and physical exams.- Understand and adhere to performance standards, policies, and behaviors.
• Participate in Performance Improvement Initiatives and utilize appropriate decision-making processes.- Collaborate and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
• Attend mandatory in-services and staff meetings as required.- Utilize cost containment practices and adhere to all policies and procedures, including dress code, conduct, and customer service.
• Rapidly assess and respond to situational needs of patients, staff, and visitors, and adapt to a high-stress environment with frequent interruptions.
• Serve primary populations, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, and adapt to cultural and communication needs.
• Core Competencies : Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)- Teamwork and adaptability- Strong problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills- Stress tolerance Physical / Mental Demands / Requirements : May be exposed to chemicals necessary for tasks;

Must be able to move objects up to 50 pounds and assist patients of all weights with a minimum assist of one or with assistive device / equipment.
