FAA Office of Airports Safety & Standards, Airports Engineering Division (AAS-100)
AAS-100 is responsible for approximately 82 Advisory Circulars and approximately 23 Engineering Briefs ranging from airport design to airport lighting requirements.
This position must act in the capacity of government advisors for interaction with industry personnel, programs, and teams.
Advisory support includes programmatic, technical, and guidance to AAS-100 for the planning, setup, and execution of division initiated and managed programs.
This includes continued support and operational maintenance of AAS-100 owned and managed regulatory advisory guidance (e.
g., Advisory Circulars (ACs), Engineering Briefs, other Technical Guidance).
The Senior Airport Electrical Engineer will be the subject matter expert in aspects of airport lighting, electrical systems, and equipment the review and update to most 150 series ACs.
They will provide technical support for airport civil engineering issues and recommendations to the COR.
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Maintain and update AAS-100 owned or managed guidance and requirements for the following :
- Airport Lighting and electrical systems and equipment
- Airport Signs
- Obstruction Lighting
- Heliport Lighting
- Surface Surveillance Systems (including Foreign Object Debris detection and avian radar)
- Next Gen Technology
- Airport Lighting Equipment Certification Program
- LED Lights and Lighting Systems
- Electrical and Electronic Research and Development
- Review ACs and make recommendations for adjudicating comments; and
- Identify differences with respect to pertinent ICAO documents and provide a report summarizing the findings.
- Review Advisory Circulars (ACs), Engineering Briefs (EBs), FAA Orders, and white papers and make recommendations for adjudicating comments.

Additional Responsibilities May Include :
- Make suggestions for and cooperate with process improvement initiatives.
- Communicate with the FAA customer proactively and with correct modality.
- Maintain and encourage a culture of inclusion and positivity.

Qualifications and Education Requirements :
- Engineering degree in related field and 15 years of Airport Electrical Engineering experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office365, SharePoint, and Excel software.
- Detail-oriented with ability to execute multiple tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Desire and drive to learn, grow, and advance within the industry.
Preferred Skills :
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Professional Document writing skill or editing experience (for white papers, etc.)
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint on Windows-based computers.
- Programing or application development experience highly desired
