Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med / Surg RN with an active ND or compact license, BLS certification, and recent acute care experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Position is on a 30-bed Med Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting
  • Unit specializes in post-surgical care including total joint replacement, spinal surgery, urology, abdominal surgery, bariatrics, and medical overflow
  • Day shift, 12-hour shifts with every other weekend required
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 4-5 on days and 1 : 5-6 on nights
  • First to float to medical and telemetry units as needed
  • No requirement to titrate drips, but occasional heparin drips, PCA pump, and TPN encountered
  • Utilizes Epic EMR, prior experience preferred
  • Remote telemetry packs are used with monitor techs interpreting strips
  • Responsibilities include bedside shift reporting and managing post-op patients with drains and ostomies
  • Charge nurse available on all shifts; night charge may take low-acuity assignments
  • Unit is supported by nurse aids / patient care techs at a 1 : 12 ratio
  • Respiratory therapists handle all RT treatments; nurses manage nasal cannula oxygen
  • Flexible scrub color allowed
  • Close-knit team environment with supportive culture
  • Holiday coverage required as needed
  • RTO requests must be submitted up front for seven or fewer days per 13-week contract; no additional RTO will be approved
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

  • Active ND or compact RN license in hand at time of application
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum of 2 years recent Med / Surg acute care experience
  • Surgical, post-op, or early ambulation experience preferred
  • Must provide two professional references : one from a recent supervisor (last 12 months) and one from a peer or supervisor (within past 3 years)
  • Cannot have been employed full time, part time, or PRN by any facility affiliated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity, in the past year
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
