ABOUT THE JOB

MU Health Care is seeking an incredible nurse to serve as the Director of its Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital, a role of considerable influence and responsibility within an academic critical care setting.

The chosen leader will manage a substantial facility with 61 inpatient beds and a 25-bed psychiatric emergency and observation unit, dedicated to delivering incredible adult and pediatric psychiatric care.

The Director's responsibilities are expansive, encompassing the creation and enhancement of programs that directly impact and improve community health outcomes.

A pivotal aspect of the role is the establishment and nurturing of community ties, particularly with law enforcement, which is fundamental to the centerâ€s patient-focused ethos.

A critical requirement for this pivotal role is current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Missouri, which is foundational to understanding and guiding the complex clinical environment of the hospital.

The Director must demonstrate a thorough proficiency in legal compliance and regulatory frameworks, be adept at consulting with the legal team and law enforcement, and oversee the daily management of risk and regulatory concerns.

A unique feature includes the use of a tele-courtroom, which convenes twice a week, highlighting the hospital's integrated role within the broader judicial and healthcare system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administer University and MU Health Care policies that affect all disciplines at the hospital. Provides mandatory reporting communication related to licensure information as required by the State Board of Nursing.

Serves on and participates in appropriate administrative and medical staff committees.

Develop and manage operating and capital budgets to conform to strategic and financial plans of the hospital and system through the annual budget process, monthly financial review process, expenditure of allocated funds, and appropriate charge capture for services rendered.

Direct and coordinate the work of staff, and manage personnel activities to meet Departmental, Hospital, and Health System objectives related to the provision of patient-centered care within assigned areas.

Direct Nurse Managerâ€s actions related to areas of responsibility including, but not limited to hiring, performance management, staff development, disciplinary action, organizational goals, policy etc.

Oversees recruitment and performance management for nursing leaders.

Direct ancillary and support services managerâ€s actions related to areas of responsibility including, but not limited to hiring, performance management, staff development, disciplinary action, organizational goals, policy etc.

Oversees recruitment and performance management for clinical and operational leaders. Ensure enough appropriately qualified nursing staff and other health care providers to care for patients.

Directly manage the patient care services of assigned areas.

Ensure that nursing standards compliance and training occur at all levels of the facility on a continuous and timely basis.

In collaboration with Administrative Leadership and medical directors and staff develop strategic and operational goals and plans for assigned areas of responsibility.

Communicate plans and direction to staff while continuously evaluating plans.

Promote continuous performance improvement in the areas of patient, physician, and employee satisfaction. Participate in performance improvement teams, implementing CQI tools to achieve results.

Ensure adherence to appropriate regulatory standards in all nursing units.

Function as a change agent to continuously strive for improvement in access, operational flow, clinical and financial outcomes, patient and employee satisfaction and reputation in the community.

Assure development of operating systems and effective organizational structure that result in optimal service delivery and achievement of organizational goals and objectives.

Establish positive relationships and communication channels between medical staff and hospital leadership to optimize quality service and achievement of identified goals.

Oversee the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care across units.

Direct the implementation and oversight of MU Health Care time and attendance policies and practices.

May complete unit / department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
