Job Summary

The Department of Public Safety is in search of part-time Campus Public Safety Officers to work weekend evening shifts 12-hour from 7 : 00 PM - 7 : 00 AM.

Essential Functions

  • Enforce campus regulations, federal, state and city statutes
  • Protect the University’s property and persons
  • Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public / co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones
  • Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
  • Experience with traffic control preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Follow detailed oral and written instructions
  • Excellent human relations skills
  • Controlling campus traffic
  • Provide security escort service
  • Conduct emergency evacuation of the campus, if necessary

Minimum Education and Experience

Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license and currently must be licensed to carry a firearm through the Watchman’s Division, St.

Louis County Private Security Section . An earned Associate's Degree or equivalent earned credit hours from an accredited institution preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Read, understand and clearly speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public / co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones
  • Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
  • Experience with traffic control preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Follow detailed oral and written instructions
  • Excellent human relations skills
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard;
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Provide quality customer service
  • Handle both common and crisis situations at the client site, calmly and efficiently
  • May be required to use protective devices such as pepper spray or baton

Physical Skills and Requirements

  • Ability to effect forceful detainment of combative and violent subjects
  • Lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Able to drive a motor vehicle and golf cart
  • Able to use visual and hearing acuity
  • Able to write, type on a computer and talk on phone and walkie-talkie
  • Able to effectively give first aid, especial including Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (certification and training to be provided by the University)
