- Arrange daily activities based on urgency of ordered labs and stability for collected samples.
- Review lab orders to confirm what labs have been ordered for collection date.
- Verifies lab orders have been signed off on by provider’s, prior to collection.
- Reassure patients and help them relax.
- Draw blood using sterilized and approved equipment.
- Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples, per lab test, as required by the lab.
- Records required patient data accurately on the requisition forms and electronic lab orders.
- Completes all required documentation for samples to be processed at the lab (i.e., test requisition forms (paper and / or electronic), admission records / face sheets, patient consents, etc.).
- Accurately labels patient specimen and efficiently packs the specimen for transport, shipping or courier service.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of collection area, self and supplies.
- Notifies support team / management when additional supplies are needed.
- Communicates with direct management regarding staffing / customer related concerns.
- Maintains patient confidentiality in dealing with patient information following strict HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintains professionalism while interacting with clinic staff, patients and physicians.
