What You’ll Do

The Photonics Simulation Engineer is responsible for co-design of Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) in order to provide coupling designs and solutions to meet the fiber-to-waveguides coupling efficiency targets with manufacturability and scalability in mind.

He or she is responsible to provide simulation results, analyze designs, and consult with the packaging team, in order to enable an optimal design while addressing customer requirements.

The mission of SAMSUNG PACKAGING is to find package solutions beyond Silicon to enable the next generation high-performance systems considering power, cost, and to tackle the difficult and hugely innovative task with the industry.

You will work very closely with internal / external customers from initial design concept to high volume manufacturing, with transparency, exceptionally flawless execution while delivering the highest quality product.

Location : Onsite at our San Jose headquarters 5 days a week with an average of 10% travel per month.

Responsibilities :

  • Design, simulate, develop, build, and test systems and products based on optics, photonics, and laser technologies for Co-Packaged Optics.
  • Demonstrate in-depth expertise and knowledge of optics and successful integration in packaging.
  • Possess a robust foundation in Mechanical, Thermal, and Electrical analyses, providing critical insights for packaging development.
  • Collaborate closely with package architects and cross-functional teams specializing in Mechanical, Thermal, and Electrical disciplines, working collectively to conduct comprehensive analyses and ensure the success of CPO advanced packaging projects.
  • Apply extensive experience in the optical design and integration with 2.5D / 3D advanced packaging solutions, including a track record of successful implementations.
  • Thrive on solving intricate problems and addressing technical challenges with innovative solutions.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective knowledge sharing and clear reporting on findings and recommendations.

What You Bring

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or Physics with 15+ years of experience or Masters in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or Physics with 13+ years of industry experience or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or Physics with 10+ years of industry experience preferred.
  • Complete familiarity and experience with Photonics EDA tools such as Lumerical, Zemax, and analysis methods such as FDTD.
  • Familiarity with the photonics ecosystem, supply chain, and material suppliers.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and breakthroughs in CPO and advanced packaging technologies to continuously enhance feasibility study methodologies.
  • Collaborate with external partners, suppliers, and industry experts to access the latest advancements and incorporate best practices into feasibility studies.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in the development and optimization of advanced packaging processes for CPO.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to contribute expertise and insights, influencing the direction of CPO advanced packaging initiatives.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to remain at the forefront of CPO and advanced packaging technology, sharing knowledge and insights within the organization.
  • Collaborate closely with package architects and product design teams to align advanced packaging solutions with overall product objectives and requirements.
