Position Overview

As a Software Development Engineer at Autodesk Research, you will work side-by-side with world-class researchers and engineers to build new ML-powered product features that help our customers imagine, design, and make a better world.

You are a software engineer who is passionate about solving problems and building things. Your skills span across data processing and distributed systems with a software engineering base.

You are excited to collaborate with AI researchers and engineers to build AI features in Autodesk products. You are comfortable working at the intersection of research and product.

Reporting Structure : You will report to Senior Manager, Generative AI.

Location : This role is hybrid with flexible work locations. We are a global team, located in London, San Francisco, Toronto, and remotely.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend and frontend applications and services.
• Design, implement, and monitor CI / CD systems (e.g., Jenkins).
• Develop and optimize data processing pipelines using Ray and Metaflow.
• Work with 3D data (meshes / BREPs) and implement 3D geometry rendering.
• Identify and resolve bugs and issues in a timely manner.
• Contribute to multi-team projects and codebases, ensuring code quality and consistency.
• Use version control systems (e.g., Git) to manage code changes.
• Collaborate with research scientists and machine learning engineers to integrate AI / ML solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.
• Proactively identify opportunities to innovate and build solutions in a high uncertainty research environment.
• Ensure all development activities adhere to security best practices, protecting sensitive data and mitigating security risks.

Minimum Qualifications

• Proficient in cloud infrastructure services (AWS).
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems and experience with Docker and bash terminals.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in building data pipelines.
• Experience with CI / CD tools and processes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Additional Qualifications

• Experience with Ray Data and Metaflow pipelines.
• Knowledge of 3D data processing and rendering techniques.
• Familiarity with 3D modelling software and file formats (e.g., meshes, BREPs).
• Understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
• Ability to work in an agile development environment.
• Experience with front-end technologies (e.g., JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and frameworks (e.g., React with Next.js).
• Passion for learning new technologies and improving existing systems.
• Proficiency in a low-level programming language such as C, C++, or Rust.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with other cloud providers (e.g., Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
• Knowledge of machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., PyTorch).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Kubernetes, Terraform).

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $91,800 and $158,400.

Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
