Job Summary

We seek a flexible, proactive, detail-oriented candidate to join our interdisciplinary, collaborative research team and to accelerate cutting-edge reproductive health policy research in the Dow Division of Health Services Research.

This position is an excellent opportunity to grow and gain expertise in health services research, reproductive health policy, and project management.

In this role, you will work on a variety of innovative projects, including federally funded projects that examine in vitro fertilization (IVF) insurance benefit design, fertility care, and maternal and child health.

You will also collaborate with diverse faculty members from across the University, including the College of Language, Science, and the Arts (LSA), the Ross School of Business, the School of Public Health, and Michigan Medicine, including health economists, biostatisticians, project managers, data analysts, and trainees to catalyze, coordinate, and manage reproductive health research projects.

This work includes study coordination, research, manuscript / presentation development, and grant writing, and managing relationships with external partners in health care consulting and with co-investigators at other employers (universities and private firms).

You will become a critical member of the research team and have the opportunity to contribute toward research and initiatives including contributing to writing manuscripts and other products, if you wish.

Who We Are

The Dow Division of Health Services Research in the Department of Urology at the University of Michigan was established in 2008 and has a mission to improve the lives of patients through innovative research and collaborative quality improvement, shape local, state, and federal health care policy and delivery, and train the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Our research team is focused on reproductive health policy research and advocacy. Our long-term goal is to generate compelling new evidence that can improve the health of people with infertility and their families.

We have impact by studying reproductive health policy and by advocating for systematic improvements.

Responsibilities*

Tasks include but are not limited to :

  • Day to day management of multi-part research projects, ensuring that all project information is consistently documented, secured, and accessible.
  • Create detailed work plans, timelines, and project schedules with input from the research and analytical team, which identify and sequence the activities needed to successfully complete research project aims and objectives.
  • In collaboration with research staff, conducting research in the field of reproductive health.
  • In collaboration with research staff, help develop and oversee the team?s social media, policy impact, and communication strategy.
  • Schedule and facilitate project meetings including agenda development, note taking and tracking action items, and maintaining a decision tracking log.
  • Attend team meetings to support the PIs and project needs and ensure project tasks, analyses, and products are completed on time.
  • Curation of the shared workspaces for the project so that team members can collaborate across institutions and departments.
  • Ensure regulatory and ethical compliance ? complete Institutional Review Board submissions and renewals, Data Use Agreements, progress reports, and related contracts.
  • Assist with manuscripts, posters, presentations, and other project related products, including helping create and edit figures and tables.
  • Assist with preparation of scientific grant proposals and grant reporting.
  • Work with the project team and department grants management staff to monitor all study related budget activities.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Project or program management experience, preferably in a research setting
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and regularly exercise judgment in setting priorities.
  • Must possess strong Microsoft Office suite skills and be able to use other collaborative software as needed such as Google docs, project management tools, or presentation software like PowerPoint and Canva
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with high attention to detail
  • Proven ability to function as an effective member of a thoughtful, intentional, collaborative, and highly productive research team.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field
  • Experience with health services and / or health policy research
  • Experience with scientific writing
  • Experience with grant preparation
  • Experience with federally funded budgets and monitoring of expenditures
