Since 1987, the Conservation Corps of Long Beach (CCLB) has worked to help youth realize their potential while serving the Gateway Cities area.

As a state-certified Corps, CCLB is positioned to offer its Corpsmembers access to a variety of environmental work experiences while also facilitating personal development opportunities.

More than 12,000 youth and young adults have benefitted from our unique program, and over 1,500 have received a high school diploma while working with us.

We continue to serve local youth as we work towards achieving our vision of a world where all youth and young adults thrive, are resilient, have equitable access to opportunity, and are stewards of our community and the environment.

The primary mission of the Conservation Corps of Long Beach is to support young people in realizing their potential through work, service, conservation, and education.

Position Summary

A YouthBuild Case Manager is responsible for providing comprehensive support and supplemental services to participants in the YouthBuild program.

The case manager will ensure that they receive the necessary resources, guidance, and advocacy to increase their executive functioning and wellbeing to assist in achieving their educational, personal, and professional goals.

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Participant Support :
  • Provide one-on-one case management to YouthBuild participants, helping them set and achieve personal, educational, and career goals.
  • Develop and maintain individualized service plans that address each participant's unique needs, strengths, and barriers.
  • Offer emotional support, encouragement, and guidance, helping participants stay engaged and motivated in the program.
  • Assist participants in navigating challenges related to the criminal justice system, foster care, or other institutional barriers.
  • Resource Coordination :
  • Connect participants with necessary services, such as housing assistance, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, childcare, and transportation.
  • Work with community partners and service providers to ensure participants have access to the resources they need to succeed.
  • Work with emergency services, shelters, and other crisis resources to ensure participants' safety and well-being.
  • Monitor and follow up on participants' use of resources to ensure they are effectively supporting their progress.
  • Assessment and Evaluation :
  • Conduct initial intake assessments to understand participants' backgrounds, needs, and goals.
  • Regularly assess participants' progress and adjust service plans as needed.
  • Maintain detailed case notes, progress reports, and other documentation in compliance with program and funding requirements.
  • Collaboration and Communication :
  • Work closely with other YouthBuild staff, including instructors, job developers, and mentors, to provide holistic support to participants.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions to stay informed about program updates and best practices.
  • Engage with participants' families or support networks as appropriate to foster a supportive environment for the participant.
  • Follow-Up and Post-Program Support :
  • Maintain contact with participants after they complete the program to offer continued support and guidance as they transition to employment or further education.
  • Track and report on participant outcomes, including job placements, educational achievements, and long-term stability.

Skills and Qualifications :

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse participants.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive and work effectively independently and in a collaborative environment, with limited supervision.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism. Understanding of trauma-informed care practices is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required; Google Suite & Excel skills highly desirable.
  • Experience with Salesforce data collection software
  • Dependable work ethic with a high level of integrity and accountability

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, or another related field required; master's degree a plus
  • 4+ years' experience, preferably in the nonprofit, social services field and possess demonstrated commitment to the at risk TAY, reentry or dual diagnosis population

Salary and Benefits :

  • $26.89 -$34.42 per hour (Salary Grade 18) (reflects the entire pay range) based on a level of experience and education that exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale (salary range).
