Commissioning Engineer
What You Can Expect
The Commissioning Engineer is part of a multi-disciplinary team focused on delivering all aspects of facility start-up, commissioning, testing, and handover to operations for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
The Engineer interacts with, oversees, and leads a multidisciplinary team made up of ENGIE personnel, EPC Contractor personnel, Major Equipment Vendor Technical Field Advisors, Consulting Engineers, and other specialist resources in accordance with all applicable contracts, permits, and other project requirements.
For project purposes, the Commissioning Engineer reports to the assigned Project Manager.
- Coordinate and technically supervise all commissioning activities to bring BESS facilities from the end of construction into fully safe, stable, and reliable operations by identifying all required startup, commissioning, and testing activities, and execute a Commissioning Plan for their completion and provide input to the project's design and execution plan by ensuring that commissioning activities can be completed safely and efficiently to achieve the project's budget and schedule
- Review all BESS project permits, agreements, licenses, registrations, and contracts (including ISO and TSP requirements) to identify all data to be collected and activities to be completed and documented during commissioning.
- Ensure all required submittals are made and reviews are completed in a timely
- manner by the relevant stakeholders
- Review all relevant QA / QC documentation during project construction to identify issues and adjust the Commissioning Plan during project execution.
- Work with the stakeholders internally and externally as necessary to correct project work prior to the start of commissioning activities or to adapt the commissioning activities to the changed project conditions
- Work with the Project Stakeholders to ensure the projects are properly closed out, and issues / claims are addressed and, ensure that the commissioning team prepares and submits completed handover documentation for the operations and maintenance managers for their teams to participate in the Projects continuous improvement and return on experience activities, and lead those activities with respect to startup, commissioning, and testing activities
What You'll Bring
- A Bachelor's Degree or higher in management, engineering, science, or technology related field
- A minimum of five (5) years working experience with a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience related to the development, design, and construction of complex energy / electrical projects and a minimum of three (3) years of direct involvement in the commissioning phase of complex energy / electrical projects
- Strong Interpersonal skills with a proven ability to lead, manage, and direct multi-discipline teams during the commissioning phase of a BESS or other complex electrical project
- The ability to be flexible and adjust to changing project conditions, develop and present alternative solutions to problems, and recommend a course of action
- A solid competency in team management and strong experience in the commissioning of complex projects, particularly electrical energy projects
- The ability to spend 100% of their time on site during the startup, commissioning, and testing phase of a project.
- This will require travel for several weeks at a time being based away from the base location during these periods
- An excellent working knowledge of technical software such as, SCADA systems, EMS, etc., and standard office software such as MS office, Teams, SharePoint, MS Project, and other software such as ArcGIS, GreenIT, SAP, and Procore
Additional Details
- This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
- Must be available to travel domestically 30% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation
Salary Range : $62,400 - $94,450 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
