At Houston Methodist the Athletic Trainerposition is responsible for preventing recognizing assessingmanaging treating disposing of and reconditioning athletic injuriesunder the direction of a physician licensed in this state oranother qualified licensed health professional.

This positionperforms related duties in accordance with the state practice actapplicable regulations and department policy procedures andpractices.

The Athletic Trainer position demonstrates competence toadapt to work and customer service to accommodate the uniquephysical psychosocial cultural safety and other development needsof patients served by thedepartment.

PEOPLE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Promotes apositive work environment and contributes to a dynamic teamfocusedwork unit that actively helps one other to achieve optimaldepartmentresults.
  • Collaborates withall members of the health care team by actively communicating andreporting pertinent information and data in a comprehensive mannerto facilitate efficient and effective accomplishment of patientcare.
  • Provides oversightto support personnel of patient care duties to ensure properlyperformed.
  • Effectivelycommunicates with the patient family physician and coach regardingthe patients ability to return to practice andcompetition.

SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Practicesprevention recognition assessment management treatment andreconditioning of injuries in accordance with athletic trainingpractice act and in collaboration withproviders.
  • Documentspatient assessments and treatment notesaccurately.
  • Works in anintegrated manner with the healthcare team in the provision ofexercise and treatmentmodalities.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Providessafe effective athletic training appropriate to the patientsability and injury based upon the relevant evidencebasedpractice.
  • Preparespatients for practice and competition through the appropriateutilization of braces bandages wrapping and taping techniques toprevent injury.

Provides emergency care within the athletic trainerscope ofpractice.

Proactivelyidentifies / assesses any facility environment or patient relatedissues documenting and communicating to management as appropriate.

Corrects minor safetyhazards.
