Accounting Manager

About the Position :

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to lead our accounting team In this role, you will supervise, plan and coordinate the daily activities of the accounting team;

oversee and direct major programs, financial reporting, auditing and operational management of the accounting division and staff.

You will play a critical role in decision-making process, providing strategic insights to support the financial planning and operations.

Overview of the Accounting Manager Role :

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting activities including but not limited to financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, grants, fixed assets and general ledger maintenance.
  • Plans and oversees assigned workflow and time utilization of staff; assigns, communicates, and instructs activities and deadlines to collectively achieve city department workplan goals and initiatives.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the general ledger including development and maintenance of the chart of accounts, reviewing and approving journal entries, and determining proper account coding.
  • Assures accounting records are in balance with actual cash investments, accounts receivable, and deposits.
  • Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates employees; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies;

implements discipline procedures per established policies, procedures, and executive guidance.

  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
  • Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
  • Assist with tax audits and tax returns
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles

Preferred Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or closely related field
  • experience in general accounting, budget development, financial reporting, and cash management
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and / or experience
  • Employees must be residents of Washington State
  • Previous governmental accounting experience a plus
