Salary : $11.50 / hr

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Animal Services Manager, the Canine Animal Care Technician is responsible for the daily care, welfare, and enrichment of dogs housed in the shelter. This includes cleaning and maintaining kennels, monitoring animal health, providing play and enrichment opportunities, and assisting the public with inquiries related to adoptions, lost and found pets, and shelter services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect kennels, dog runs, and surrounding areas in accordance with disease control protocols.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and overall well-being of all animals in the shelters care.
  • Perform routine facility maintenance and groundskeeping duties.
  • Provide enrichment, socialization, and exercise opportunities for shelter dogs.
  • Assist members of the public in person and over the phone regarding :

Animal intake and release

  • Lost and found animals
  • Animal adoptions
  • Accurately input and maintain records, reports, and documentation using shelter software and forms.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working with the public in a professional and compassionate manner
  • Confident and safe handling of animals, particularly dogs of all sizes and temperaments

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear
  • Occasionally required to use hands to handle or operate tools and equipment; reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, touch, or smell
  • Must be able to lift and / or move animals or items weighing over 50 pounds
  • Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Work Environment

  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Occasional exposure to wet / humid environments and moving mechanical parts
  • Noise level is generally moderate
  • Must be comfortable working in a dynamic and emotionally demanding shelter environment
  • Schedule

  • Tuesday through Saturday, 8 : 30am-5pm
