GENERAL SUMMARY :
Under the supervision of the RN Supervisor of the Transitional Care Unit, the Certified Nurse Aide assists nurses in carrying out routine assignments, transporting and preparing residents and equipment and keeping equipment and areas in an orderly hygienic condition.
The Certified Nurse Aide must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his / her unit.

EDUCATION :
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Completion of Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Program.
WORK EXPERIENCE :
Six months experience as a Nurse Aide in a geriatric setting preferred.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS :
Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.
Must meet federal requirements for enrollment on the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry upon employment; OR within 120 days of employment, must successfully complete the required Nurse Aide course and competency examination.
Must be sixteen years of age or older (will work within restrictions of child labor law).
CPR Certification required or must be obtained and maintained.
Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interaction (including promoting and maintaining positive relationships) with patients, visitors or other hospital personnel.
Must adhere to nursing policies and standards and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Must be willing to rotate to other units as necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Heavy Work : duties require exerting 25-50 lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time) , and / or 10-25 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
Position involves bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting (occasionally in strained positions) throughout shift.
Must be able to read, write and see.
Position requires ability to transport self throughout facility frequently, while pushing a wheelchair.
ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS :
Occasional exposure to blood and body substances.
Exposure to needle sticks possible.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Majority of work is performed in the resident living area.
Work area may also include transportation van and resident external appointment sites.
