Job Description and Duties

Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay.

Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay.

Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan as a clinical scientist to plan, organize, and carry out scientific research studies of moderate scientific scope and complexity.

This position ensures testing of dried blood spot, serum, plasma and blood specimens of newborn babies for detection of Pompe and / or Mucopolysaccharidosis I (MPS I) disease and other genetic disorders using tandem mass spectrometry (MS / MS) in our high complexity Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified genetic screening laboratory following quality assurance guidelines.

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Research Scientist Supervisor I (Chemical Sciences), Chief of the Pompe Screening, Metabolic 2nd Tier, & Phe Monitoring Unit.

Certification Requirements :

GDSP has as its core functionality the LSB. This laboratory is required to be certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as being in compliance with the requirements of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
