The Carter Center is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit, nongovernmental organization founded in 1982 in Atlanta, GA, by former U.

S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, in partnership with Emory University. The Center has helped to improve millions of lives in more than 80 countries by waging peace, fighting disease, and building hope.

SUMMARY :

The Associate Director, Carter Center Weekend, manages key aspects of this fundraising event, including overseeing the auction database, cataloging donated items, researching and writing item descriptions, updating entries post-auction, and coordinating catalog production and photo shoots.

They also develop event calendars, schedule meetings, create program materials, manage event staffing needs, and coordinate with vendors to ensure a successful donor event.

Support for other events, like regional meetings, conferences, and receptions, may also be required.

The Associate Director works closely with Development, Communications, Volunteer Services, Peace and Health programs, IT, Facilities, Events, and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

They may supervise an intern and the CCW Administrative Assistant and report to the Strategist, Director of Carter Center Weekend.

FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION :

  • Implements strategies for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals for gifts between $25K - 100K to support a department, school, or unit.
  • Solicits gifts in support of the school / unit.
  • Coordinates giving initiatives with central Constituent Giving office.
  • Manages a portfolio of prospects through an active schedule of solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship calls to donors and new prospects.
  • Builds relationships with current and prospective donors, alumni, and volunteers to support programs and priorities.
  • May ensure the processing of gifts.
  • Liaises with central advancement offices to monitor status of the qualification, cultivation, and stewardship of prospects to build a pipeline toward major gifts.
  • Writes and edits communication materials directed at donors.
  • Develops strategies for marketing new and existing programs.
  • Maintains information on selected donors and prospects including contact reports in CRM system.
  • Communicates in ways that are donor-centric, while furthering the mission of Emory.
  • Travels to meet with donors as needed.
  • Assists in planning, organizing, and executing the Carter Center Weekend and other related donor events, from inception to completion.
  • Provides support to the Strategist and Director, managing multiple tasks, including venue selection, catering, AV needs, and coordination of volunteers and staff.
  • Manages the auction item database, facilitating the transition to a new system, ensuring data integrity, and cataloging auction items with proper documentation.
  • This includes organizing donated items, entering new items, writing descriptions, overseeing catalog production, coordinating photo shoots, and maintaining photo files for the web designer.
  • Oversees the packing of auction items and event supplies, coordinating with Volunteer Services, and may train and supervise volunteers and interns.
  • Collaborates with program and communications staff to develop event themes, programs, and timelines, scheduling meetings with key stakeholders and tracking assets needed for production.
  • Also oversees the physical storage system for event materials, art, and auction items, implementing improvements for organization, accessibility, and security.
  • May manage a program / event budget.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

A bachelor's degree and three years of experience in fundraising or related field OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and / or training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Strong interpersonal and long-term relationship-building skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in written and oral forms.
  • Ability to understand and articulate the mission and goals of The Carter Center and its programs in a compelling manner.
  • Excellent follow-up and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with mass mailings and event planning preferred. High degree of competency with Microsoft Office software and Raiser's Edge constituent management system.
  • Active engagement in professional development and best practices for fundraising programs.
  • Strong research skills, such researching auction items, vendors, potentials venues, destinations, to make sure all the information is accurate and aligns with TCC mission and donor interests.
  • Able to design event surveys and interviews, with event evaluation reports.

NOTE : This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.

Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines. All non-exempt employees must reside within the state of Georgia. The Carter Center reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
