Job Summary :
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to develop and manage hardware and software standards, policies, and programming for automation control systems within a large-scale industrial operation.
The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise in industrial control systems and have a strong background in managing complex systems for high-reliability environments, such as pipelines or similar industries.
Primary Responsibilities :
Develop Standards & Policies : Create and maintain company-wide standards and policies for automation control-related hardware and software systems.
This includes programming standards like tag naming, alarming, safety shutdowns, engine sequencing, control algorithms, and acceptance testing.
- Modular Programming : Develop and maintain standardized modular programming methodologies for PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) applications.
- Fleet Reliability & Data Management : Maintain and manage machine health and compliance data for reciprocal and turbine engines to ensure high reliability and integrity across the companys fleet.
- Technical Support for New Projects : Provide advanced technical input for engineering and construction teams to ensure effective design, installation, and operation of automation control systems on new construction projects.
- Third-Party Collaboration : Work with third-party automation integrators to ensure all aspects of HMI, automation, life safety, programming logic, and cybersecurity meet company standards and requirements.
- Small Project Development : Develop PLC and HMI applications for smaller projects, and provide hands-on commissioning support.
- System Migration & Upgrades : Create migration plans and provide recommendations for upgrading and replacing existing control systems.
- Problem-Solving & Analysis : Investigate, analyze, and make recommendations to improve the reliability, effectiveness, and efficiency of existing and proposed equipment.
- Software Application Support : Provide advanced technical guidance for the installation, evaluation, and maintenance of automation control-related software applications.
- Cross-Department Communication : Interface with management, engineering, and field personnel to ensure uniformity, continuity, and a high level of customer service.
Position Requirements :
- Education : Bachelors degree in mechanical, electrical, civil, or chemical engineering from an accredited institution.
- Experience : A minimum of 3 years of progressive work experience in an industrial automation role, preferably in the pipeline or energy sectors.
- Technical Expertise :
- Experience with industrial automation control system software platforms, such as Rockwell Automation, CTI 2500, FTSolutions, and Workshop OPTO 22 OSI PI.
- Proficiency with computer and control system networks, including knowledge of industrial protocols and database management.
- Strong ability to develop and troubleshoot PLC and HMI applications.
- Continued Learning : Commitment to staying updated on company standards, policies, governmental regulations, and industry codes.
- Adaptability : Ability to handle rapidly shifting priorities, manage multiple projects, and work with geographically dispersed teams.
- Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with field teams, technical resources, and management.
- Human Relations Skills : Strong interpersonal skills for effective teamwork in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Problem-Solving : Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, especially when working in complex, high-pressure situations.
- Availability : Subject to 24 / 7 callout and must be able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience in pipeline or similar industrial field activities is preferred.
