In total, our 141-bed facility welcomes over 3,000 patients every year. As the state’s largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services, we offer some of the most advanced therapies for stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic and sports injury, among many others.

The Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute helps people with a spinal injury achieve their highest level of independence.

Patients receive physical, occupational, speech / language and recreational therapy six days a week. Patients admitted to the inpatient portion of the Spinal Cord Injury Program must be able to actively participate in three or more hours of daily therapy.

The length of stay for spinal cord injury patients is between two to eight weeks depending on individual needs. Over 80 percent of our patients return home after discharge.

The Spinal Cord Injury Program places a strong emphasis on patient / caregiver education and is one of only two facilities in Maryland accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Low Nurse- to- patient ratios (1 : 6)UMROI is a true rehabilitation facility where we operate in the capacity more parallel to a Med Surg unit and not a skilled nursing facility.

Patients receive 3 hours of therapy a day resulting in increased physical recovery for patients. Providers, therapists, and nurses work great together for optimal outcomes.

Thorough and 1 : 1 attention through orientation and training to ensure you are equipped and supported by the hiring leaders with a strong knowledge base.

In general, it is a very gratifying place to work as you see many patients return to independence and gain their life back.

All of the benefits of a large system hospital in a family oriented small hospital. General Summary This role is designed for the nurse who is a clinical and professional leader at the unit level.

Demonstrates effective and consistent leadership behaviors in advancing evidence based practices, leading shared governance initiatives, and coaching others to achieve and grow in the role of the professional nurse.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.

These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified. Clinical Practice : Provides independent care of unit specific patient population;

serves as Clinical Resource for others, utilizes and integrates evidence into practice, functions effectively in roles specific to unit (such as charge nurse, etc.

Accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care.Accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance.

Serves as a clinical expert and professional resource for the unit nurses. Utilizes clinical expertise to teach nurses informally on the unit in a structured role or through formal teaching in classes.

Advances clinical practice on the unit, consistently integrates evidence into practice and uses this as a firm foundation for unit practice.

Service / Quality : Leads efforts to address nursing quality indicator improvement opportunities; develops / implements and evaluates action plans.

Leads performance improvement initiatives by designing, implementing, evaluating, and disseminating results.Monitors patient and unit safety standards;

actively contributes to development and implementation of improvement plans.Coaches CNI and CNIIs on PI and / or evidence-based practice.

Complies with, participates and leads TJC / CARF regulatory activities in the unit / division or organization.Leads in the development of Performance Improvement, or Evidence Based Practice, or research at the unit level.

Unit Operations : Performs charge role as scheduled, coaches new charge nurses.Oversees unit orientation program. Plans clinical experiences for orientation.

Serves as a unit liaison for other departments such as lab, nutrition, pharmacy, etc.Mentors and coaches other nurses to advance their development and to maintain competencies required for the patient population served.

Orients nurses to the shared governance structure and councilsProfessional Development : Serves as an expert preceptor, coach and mentor to new nurses, students and preceptors Mentors and coaches unit leaders or those assuming leadership roles on councils or major governance initiatives.

Leads unit processes for development of ancillary personnel’s skills and development; leads unit based peer review processes.

Actively engaged in advancing own practice; role model for others QualificationsAmerican Heart Association (AHA) BLS required upon hire· Must meet all unit specific certification requirements : (PALS, ACLS, NRP)· Maintains all Clinical Nurse II core expectations·Must maintain .

50 FTE or greater·Works in a Direct Patient Care Role·No discipline greater than a verbal counseling within the past year·Meets satisfactory level or higher on last two performance appraisals (if applicable)·Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information·Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills Additional InformationAll your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
