Position : Food Service Director
Contract Days : 215
Daily Time : 6 : 30 am 3 : 00 pm
Salary Range : $61,000 - $64,500 (To be determined : based on credentials and previous experience)
Effective Date : September 16, 2024
Reports to : Assistant Superintendent / Designee
Job Responsibilities
Food Service Supervisor must plan menus, meeting Federal regulations, and ensure the food supplies are at each school to meet the requirements.
Responsible for staffing all schools and ensuring equipment is in working condition. All reports for Federal reimbursement must be submitted monthly, and all Federal requirements and Health rules must be followed.
Essential Functions
- Ensure safety of students
- Promote and monitor service workers' safe work practices for all food
- Requisite all equipment and supplies for the lunch program
- Maintain proper safeguards for storage and usage of government commodities
- Oversee inventory of foods on a monthly basis
- Schedule food service staff
- Supervise and control the purchase of food and supplies
- Set sanitation standards and ensure all food service staff are aware of these standards
- Supervise the financial management of the cafeterias
- Maintain food service department banking records
- Establish repair or maintenance procedures for cafeteria equipment
- Prepare purchase summaries, weekly operating reports, and maintain monthly financial reports
- Provide payroll information to the treasurer
- Prepare and submit all required state reports
- Prepare a master menu for the school district
- Hold meetings with staff on job expectations and program operation
- Enforce health department regulations and those directed by administrative and board policy
- Cooperate with building principal(s) in making schedules regarding the general operation of the kitchen
- Provide training and supervision to cooks on quality cookery, efficient serving, portion control, sanitation, and equipment maintenance
- Authorize purchase orders for payment to the superintendent
- Monitor food production and service to assure that planned menus are followed
- Evaluate meal costs and recommend changes as appropriate
- Must be available before and after the normal school day for emergencies
- Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
- Interact positively with staff, students, and parents
- Promote good public relations
- Attend meetings and in-services as required
- Call for substitute cooks extended time 4 weeks after the last day of school
- Interview food service applicants, recommend employment, and evaluate food service employees
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model for students
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and / or designee
- Respond to routine questions and requests appropriately
- Attend regional and district food service meetings
- Provide an annual inventory of food and materials at the completion of the school year
- Consult in the planning and equipping of new cafeteria facilities
- Supervise and assist in the preparation of the kitchen for opening and closing of school
Qualifications
- High School diploma
- Bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business or a related field
- Dietician License preferred
- One to four years related experience preferred
- Such alternative qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate

- Skills in the use of computer databases, spreadsheets, MDECA, and Internet
- Basic knowledge in first aid
