POSITION SUMMARY : Eastern Connecticut Health Network is seeking a full time Anatomic Pathology Manager to join our team at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, CT.

The Anatomic Pathology Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the Histology and Cytology Departments, the gross room Pathology office, and providing administrative and regulatory oversight.

Under the general direction of the Administrative Director, provides effective overall management of anatomic pathology.

Duties include, but are not limited to employee relations, capital and technical management, quality management, and compliance with regulatory bodies for anatomic pathology.

Sets annual departmental goals that are aligned with Laboratory Business Plan and achieves through strong project management skills.

Assists with development and management of departmental operating budgets. Interacts and supports Pathologists on an as needed basis.

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION : Bachelor#s degree in science related field. Minimum of five (5) years laboratory experience in Anatomic Pathology preferred.

Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of laboratory information systems and Microsoft applications.

EXPERIENCE : Minimum of five (5) years laboratory experience.# COMPETENCIES : Ability to communicate effectively in English, in both verbal and written form, and proven project management experience with demonstrated record of success.

Strong interpersonal and employee relations skills. Position requires a valid driver#s license to travel between ECHN business sites.

Working closely with the Pathology and Clinical Laboratory administrative team. Maintaining and writing policies and procedures in compliance with CAP and state regulations.

Monitoring and reporting of quality data. Supervision / management of personnel, including creating monthly department schedules.

Assuring employee competency and compliance by following all policies and procedures. Inventory control to ensure adequate supplies for the department.

Optimization and validation of new tests and equipment by ensuring proper functioning and maintenance of equipment. Authorizes and recommends personnel decisions including hiring, firing, termination, performance evaluations, discipline, vacation, and recognition of employees.

Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and resolution and follow-through on issues that may arise. Works to closely link the issue with Quality improvement in the department.

Assists and supports CLS with maintenance of adequate staffing levels to meet workload needs. Makes staffing change recommendations.

Acts as a liaison with other hospital departments to drive organizational performance improvement. Regularly identifies new projects and develops implementation timelines.

Meets goal by achieving deadlines. Acts as a key troubleshooter for the department. Determines new and creative ways to improve Lab Customer Satisfaction.

Works across Lab departmental lines with Histology and Cytology to improve overall lab operations. Quickly resolves dept issues so to prevent further escalation of the issue.

Works effectively with Pathology group to support their business. Develops staff educational programs on a regular basis to increase knowledge base of employees.

Demonstrates responsibility for areas of management. Effectively manages daily operations of the managed areas on an on-going basis.

Effectively manages resources within the assigned areas. Meets with employees on a regular basis to understand and resolve issues.

Completes performance evaluations with clearly defined goals and objectives on a regular basis. Develops plans for technical and capital replacement on an as needed basis.

Stays current with new technology and solutions. Works closely with vendors on a regular basis, renegotiating contracts and pricing on an as needed basis.

Works with Materials Mgt and Legal department as needed to negotiate contracts. Ensures CAP and other regulatory compliance in Histology / Cytology.

Ensures Quality and Operational goals are met on a timely and continued basis. Demonstrates strong business skills related to lab contracting functions.

Responsible for assistance with contract processing for the department. Perform other duties as needed.
