Summary :
Under the direction and supervision of the certificated Occupational Therapist or designee, this position will assist in providing occupational therapy for the Office of Special Services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provides occupational therapy treatment to individual or small groups for the purpose of providing therapeutic exercise, developing adaptive and motor skills;
- Instructs students with disabilities for the purpose of gaining independence and self-care;
- Adapts equipment (e.g. keyboards, computer systems, etc.) for the purpose of increasing independence;
- Maintains all used equipment, department areas and classrooms for the purpose of ensuring safety of staff and students and to stop the spread of common diseases;
- Assesses situations involving students, family and staff for the purpose of promoting independence, maintaining a positive atmosphere and increasing educational potential;
- Supports physical therapist, occupational and speech therapists, teachers, nursing and support staff for the purpose of ensuring teamwork approach with students, treatment plans and goals;
- Documents treatment plans and intervention records for the purpose of complying with school district policies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Ability to be trained and delegated by the Occupational Therapist to administer occupational therapy to students;
- Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds;
- Demonstrates personal characteristics of flexibility, high-stress tolerance, reliability, and ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 70 pounds;
- Ability to perform varied tasks in a busy atmosphere.

Education, Certification and Experience :
- High school graduate or equivalent;
- Community College and / or Vocational School degree with study in job related area;
- Must maintain certification required for position as noted in job description, Certified OT Assistant;
- Job related experience within specialized field is required.
Certificates and Licenses :
- Certified Occupation Therapy Assistant;
- Required to have a current First Aid / CPR / AED card and training for HIV / AIDS procedures;
- Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license and automobile insurance, when using a personal vehicle for District business).
Clearances :
- Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.
