The Sr. Settlements Analyst position reports to the Sr. Manager, Power Settlements and manages processes related to power settlements.
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure all settlement activities related to accrual, actualization, reconciliation, and payment occur in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsibilities include power gross margin calculation, analysis, and reporting. Requires coordination with departments including Supply, Risk, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Accounting and Finance to identify and resolve issues, assist with cash forecasting and variance analysis, and fulfill settlement obligations with ISOs and other counterparties.
Responsibilities :
- Provide secondary support for all areas (settlements, month end close, balance sheet reconciliation) of the Settlements team.
- Manage the option transaction registry.
- Provide guidance on ISO rules for ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, MISO, ISONE, AESO, and IESO; preferably ERCOT.
- Develop and maintain procedures to ensure all ISO invoices are reconciled, processed, and paid on a timely manner.
- Provide an in-depth analysis of variances between actual and expected gross margin.
- Provide a detailed variance analysis between estimated and actual energy cost and provide feedback to Trading.
- Work with Corporate Planning to ensure gross margin forecast accuracy.
- Identify optimization and saving opportunities and bring transparency to the cost of power.
- Interact with external counterparties to resolve discrepancies.
- Interact with internal partners as required including Legal, Supply Team, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, and Finance.
- Use actual settled data to provide feedback to the Structuring team and assist in the calibration of retail pricing models.
- Work with other teams across the Company to implement and improve processes and systems supporting the activities above.
- Support internal and external audit requests.
- Work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements :
- Undergraduate degree in finance / accounting from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration desired.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in retail energy sector (familiarity with ISOs)
- Experience in the power industry, including knowledge of ERCOT market preferred .
- Ability to develop and manage remote teams.
- Excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills
- Working knowledge of ETRM / CTRM systems.
- Business-oriented professional with strong intellect who can problem-solve and put processes into place.
- Interact effectively with senior leadership and communicate effectively with business partners.
- Detail oriented self-starter with strong analytical, critical thinking and communication skills who can effectively manage multiple assignments.
- Ability to work independently and adaptable to a fast paced, fluid business environment
- Organized person who can plan and adjust to timing challenges of multiple deadlines.
- Work in a team environment to achieve goals of the department and the company.
- Light travel may be required.
