Overview :

Civil Engineer / Project Manager

Role Description : Huitt-Zollars, Inc has full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineer / Project Manager for our Tacoma office with at least 8-10 years experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Washington.

This Project Manager position should have experience in the management and design of a wide-range of land development projects and public works projects for various industrial, commercial and / or residential development projects .

Duties include but not limited to, initial project research, plan production and management of plan production staff, plan processing and management of plan processing efforts, construction administration and project close out efforts

Location : Tacoma, WA

Reports to : Managing Principal

Registration(s) : Professional Engineer

Education : Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).

Duties :

  • Function as a Lead Civil Engineer
  • Prepare preliminary engineering reports.
  • Research jurisdictional requirements for appropriate incorporation into design and construction drawings
  • Prepare of proposal / contract and of project work plans and schedule
  • Prepare design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and information obtained from research activities
  • Coordinate client management and marketing efforts for future work.
  • Prepare GIS exhibits using ArcGIS
  • Conduct site visits and documents findings
  • Work directly with clients and directing a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise
  • Attend, record, and distribute meeting minutes and assist with general project correspondence
  • Writes or prepares graphic materials for presentations or documents
  • Lead a team of engineers and drafters
  • Initiate and lead kickoff calls or high-level design calls with client in addition to preparing monthly forecasting and client cost estimates when appropriate

Key Responsibilities :

Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal.

Assists and / or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and / or executes project Win strategy.

  • Successfully and consistently functions as Lead Principal-in-Charge for their designated Practice Area in geographic market.
  • Competent, knowledgeable, service leader in the market(s) they service.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).

Verifies client satisfaction routinely and shares feedback with team.

Proactively works with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Reviews progress with PM at least monthly (including & completes vs.

spent) and that PM is adhering to weekly rhythm.

  • Successfully contributes to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
  • Oversees staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.

Qualifications :

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Must be a licensed PE in Washington with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience
  • Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision
  • Must be able to work directly with clients and directing a staff with varied levels of experience and expertise.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to train staff and review work for quality assurance
  • Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems
  • Knowledge of MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Civil3D are all a plus
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Willingness / ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented
  • Consistently deliver proactive communication with clients. When client issues arise, address or expeditiously escalate to discipline lead
  • Develop relationships with clients that allows for ease in communications and problem solving
  • Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions, effectively implement and document for internal and external stakeholders

Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities

Annual Base Salary Range : $135,000-$160,000 depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate(s). The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Washington Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

The final agreed upon compensation is based on the success candidate's individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.

The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and consideration to participate in our discretionary annual bonus incentive program.
