RSUI's Excess Claims Unit has a unique opportunity for a Team Leader to provide technical and supervisory guidance to a group of dedicated team members.

Working collaboratively with the Unit Leader, the Team Leader blends technical expertise with a passion for people development to help direct unit functions and reach company goals.

Our Excess Claims Team Leader will be entrusted with guiding the many moving pieces of claims handling functions for assigned team members.

For this reason, they must possess excellent organizational skills, and the ability to lead with accountability, empathy, and a positive attitude.

Ideal candidates must work effectively with external or internal customers, and demonstrate exceptional claims evaluation, negotiation, and positive resolution skills.

As RSUI is a highly team-oriented work environment with a specialized area of industry focus, in-person interaction and real-time, fast-paced collaboration are essential to our success.

Building strong working relationships is a key component of RSUI's culture, and doing so is accomplished, in part, through engaging in meaningful dialogue and making professional connections.

Team meetings, employee events, and other work obligations also often require an in-person presence. This position will work RSUI's hybrid work schedule, which requires three days weekly in the office.

Responsibilities :

  • Sets an example of excellence within the Claims department, in accordance with RSUI's vision, mission, and core values.
  • Mentors, develops, trains, and supports claims handlers and assistants with guidance from unit and department leadership.
  • Guides daily aspects of people management including timekeeping, employee relations, PTO, performance discussions, recruiting, etc.
  • Provides strong decision-making skills within established authority.
  • Independently manages an assigned segment of claim files.
  • Maintains exceptional job and market knowledge to advise unit leadership and team members of potential business or operational impacts.
  • Conducts quarterly self-reviews on designated employees and report findings to the Unit Leader.
  • Administers routine committee meetings for specific claim file decisions.
  • Attends business related functions, such as team meetings, mediations, trials, company events, etc.
  • May perform other related tasks as assigned, depending on business need.

Qualifications :

  • 10+ years' progressively responsible Excess Claims experience.
  • Relevant bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Adjusting license required.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation.
  • Strong ability to build rapport, inspire confidence, and establish trust / credibility.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, highly detail-oriented, and energetic.
  • Excellent communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and multitasking abilities.
  • Technical expertise in law, complex coverage issues, determining exposures, claims procedures, claims handling, negotiation, and reserving techniques.
  • Ability to work with autonomy, creativity, and collaboration.
