Job Summary :
The Director of Operations for Mechanical Construction oversees all aspects of operations related to mechanical projects, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing.
This role is responsible for ensuring that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to safety and quality standards.
The Director of Operations leads the project management teams, supervises field operations, and works closely with senior management to drive strategic growth and operational efficiency across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities :
- Operational Leadership :
- Oversee all operational aspects of mechanical construction projects from preconstruction to project close-out.
- Lead and manage project managers, superintendents, and field staff, ensuring that all teams work effectively toward the successful delivery of projects.
- Ensure that operations adhere to company policies, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and profitability, ensuring that projects stay on track and within financial constraints.
- Project Planning & Execution :
- Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize project execution and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with preconstruction teams to establish project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Review and approve project plans, schedules, and work breakdown structures, ensuring all are aligned with business objectives.
- Identify and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle to ensure successful project completion.
- Team Management & Development :
- Mentor and develop project managers, superintendents, and other staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Provide performance evaluations, feedback, and training opportunities to ensure the success and growth of team members.
- Promote teamwork, communication, and coordination across departments and job sites.
- Client Relations :
- Maintain and cultivate strong relationships with clients, ensuring their expectations are met and exceeded.
- Address client concerns and issues promptly, working to ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
- Negotiate contracts, change orders, and other client agreements.
- Strategic Planning & Growth :
- Work with senior leadership to develop and implement long-term strategic plans for company growth in mechanical construction.
- Evaluate market trends and identify new business opportunities in mechanical construction, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing sectors.
- Contribute to the company’s financial planning by identifying areas of cost-saving, efficiency improvement, and revenue generation.
- Safety & Compliance :
- Ensure that all projects comply with safety regulations, local building codes, and environmental standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture, enforcing compliance with safety protocols and standards at all job sites.
- Investigate and resolve any safety-related incidents, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
Qualifications :
- Education & Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical construction, with at least 5 years in a leadership or director-level role.
- Extensive experience managing large-scale mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems in commercial and industrial settings.
- Skills & Abilities :
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead large teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical construction processes, equipment, and technology, including HVAC systems, piping, and plumbing.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong financial acumen, with the ability to manage project budgets and financial reporting.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in construction management software, such as Procore, Bluebeam, or other related tools.
