Position Description

Aide : Performs various functions as part of the Dietary Team to prepare and serve nutritious meals in the Hospital cafeteria.

Cook : Prepares and serves meals for patients, customers and staff of the Hospital, and caterings.

Major Responsibilities

Aide

• Sets up sandwich bar and prepares sandwiches
• Performs general kitchen cleaning including dish washing
• Operates espresso coffee machine
• Helps with tray line by pouring coffee, serving hot cereal, soup and other foods
• Maintains counter stocks in serving area and all Nourishment Kitchens
• Assists and guides patients with appropriate dietary selections
• Safe checks patient diet trays, expedites patient trays to nursing aide staff
• Provides excellent customer service to patients, visitors and staff
• Uses proper infection control techniques & protective equipment

Cook

• Performs full variety of food preparation including julienne, peel, chop, debone poultry, clean and portion fish filets, and portion cuts of meat
• Performs full variety of cooking techniques including saut, pan fry, braise, grill, blanch, steam and roast
• Performs quality control checks on meals leaving the kitchen. Records food temperatures for each meal.
• Performs sanitation checks for quality assurance
• Provides excellent customer service to patients, visitors and staff
• Uses proper infection control techniques & protective equipment
• Meets state mandated food safety standards i.e., heating, cooling and storing of food goods.
• Assists in proper storage of deliveries.
• Performs general kitchen cleaning including dish / pot washing.

Education and / or Experience

• High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred
• Formal culinary education / degree preferred
• Active and current Food Handler's Permit required
• Must stay current in knowledge base of proper food handling and meet any Hospital-mandated education requirements associated with position
• Minimum one year work experience as a cook preferred
• Previous food service and / or espresso machine experience preferred
