Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Health, Safety and Loss Prevention to join our team at our facility in Rye Brook, NY, 10573.
The Director of Health, Safety and Loss Prevention oversees organizational compliance with local, state, federal environment, health, and safety regulations.
Ensures that environmental policy and procedures manuals are available and updated at all times. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
Create and present reports on safety performance and incidents to management and implement or adjust safety standards as needed.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement company-wide safety and health strategies, analyze trends, and design, and implement new safety programs through completion.
Manages the organization's medical monitoring program (e.g., Hazmat Exams, Respiratory Exams and Fit Testing, and DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing programs).
Safety policy and procedures- - Safety training and tracking - Compliance - Workers comp oversight - Claims admin - Policy creation and implementation - Worksite audits - DOT, Fit Testing, Hazmat, Respiratory, etc.
PPE oversight - Audits and interaction with regulatory bodies - Accident investigation - Federal and State regulations - Loss Prevention theft, violence, police interaction
Oversees all subcontractor compliance ensuring proper Certification of Insurance, with a focus on performance, and compliance with applicable Health and Safety standards (e.g., OSHA).
Make sure that the entire workplace (including employees) is in compliance with industry, state, and other company-related safety guidelines or rules.
Conduct routine safety audits as at when due and carry out safety training programs for company employees on regular basis.
Implement initiatives to reduce the level of work-related accidents and / or occupational hazards.
Understand regulations governing health and safety when working for private sector clients as well as public agencies at the federal, state, and local levels and with energy utilities.
Lead and provide oversight to the investigation of accidents, injuries and near misses for risk assessment and mitigation recommendations as well as implement and drive any corrective action plans.
Fostering a culture that reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting the safety and health of our employees and stakeholders.
Manages interactions with outside support / consulting and regulatory agency personnel. Oversees compliance audits. Oversees and manages the implementation of safety and improvement plans.
Develops, implements, and maintains a personal protective equipment (PPE) program.
Company representative with regulatory bodies and other outside parties with respect to safety and occupational health matters.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Well-developed knowledge and understanding of relevant H&S federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Ability and willingness to travel to all HOP locations routinely and extensively in the Northeast. This successful candidate can be based anywhere within driving distance of a HOP location.
- Specific experience with site investigation and remediation a plus, including medical monitoring knowledge.
- Experience writing Health and Safety policies and procedures and making sound recommendations, decisions, and project plans that meet all H&S requirements.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills (e.g., training, presentation, team collaboration) with the ability to influence others.
- Strong leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Deep and thorough knowledge and understanding of occupational hazards and safety standards.
- Able to interact professionally with all levels of management and ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams to achieve program and project goals.
- Must be someone that is very observant and pays keen attention to details at all times.
Education and Experience :
- 10+ years of relevant experience including 5 years leading a Health & Safety function.
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
- Professional Health and Safety certification preferred (e.g., CSP, CSHM)
- Extensive travel as needed.
