PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Area Director within The Office of Campus Living reports to a senior administrator in Campus Living. This role is primarily responsible for leading the development of the residential program, facilitating student outreach, supervising staff, and managing housing operations processes.
The ideal candidate will possess a master’s degree in Student Personnel / Affairs or a related field, along with demonstrated experience in student and community development, crisis management, and leadership.
To be successful in this position, the individual must excel at cultivating positive relationships with students, mentoring student staff, and effectively responding to emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Residential Student Outreach
Cultivates positive relationships with residential students to enhance their living-learning experience.
Develops a deep understanding of community needs through regular engagement and feedback.
Provides support to struggling students through interpersonal conflict mediation and informal counseling.
Communicates effectively with campus partners to coordinate student support efforts.
Staff Supervision & Training
Supervises daily activities and evaluates the performance of student paraprofessional staff.
Mentors and develops student staff members focusing on leadership growth and professional development.
Assists in developing and implementing a comprehensive training program for all student staff including training sessions in August, January, and spring orientation.
Administration of Processes
Adjudicates student conduct cases generating educational sanctions as needed.
Maintains accurate record-keeping throughout the conduct process using the Maxient database.
Facilitates administration protocols to address student concerns and connect them with appropriate resources.
Living Learning Community Outcome Assessment
Develops learning outcomes and employs pedagogical strategies that align with residential learning communities and works closely with appropriate faculty, staff, and students to ensure its success.
Monitors program delivery to ensure alignment with departmental objectives and assesses learning outcomes in collaboration with campus partners and students.
Emergency Response
Participates in weekly on-call rotations for campus emergencies responding promptly to critical situations.
Responds to emergency situations including after hours facilities issues, student medical / psychological emergencies, campus-wide issues such as fire and power outages, policy violations, and situations which require first responder presence in accordance with Lewis & Clark policy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & BEHAVIORS
Proficient in using software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Maxient and StarRez databases for record-keeping and data management.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with students, staff, and faculty.
Superior leadership abilities, demonstrating a capacity to mentor and develop student staff members in a residential setting.
Extremely organized, with strong administrative skills to manage multiple tasks, prepare agendas, and coordinate training programs.
Commitment to promoting inclusion in the workplace, ensuring diverse perspectives are valued and integrated into campus living initiatives.
Excellent crisis management skills, remaining calm and collected under pressure to address emergencies effectively.
Superior conflict resolution skills, employing diplomacy and mediation techniques to support students and resolve interpersonal issues.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in Student Personnel / Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
1 year of professional experience demonstrating a commitment to student and community development.
1 year of experience directly supervising student organizations or student staff
1 year of professional experience in crisis management or educational programs related to residential leadership or judicial affairs.
Experience in crisis situations and crisis management.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
2 years of experience working within a residential living community, such as a Graduate Assistant or Resident Director.
Experience with budgeting and budget procedures related to student programming.
Familiarity with event planning and related software or project management tools.
Experience with StarRez
WORK SCHEDULE
Full Time : 37.5 hours / week
