Position : Generator Technician
Pay : $23 / hour - $38 / hour
Shift : 1st, with OT and occasional weekends (take home company vehicle provided)
Location : Richmond, VA
Must pass a Department of Transportation physical examination*
Responsibilities :
- Perform maintenance and repairs on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5-5000 kW.
- Troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches, including bypass isolation and closed transition types.
- Conduct preventative maintenance services, such as oil and filter changes.
- Troubleshoot AC and DC circuits and replace necessary components.
- Perform warranty work according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Handle start-up and commissioning of new generators and generator systems.
- Diagnose and repair diesel or gaseous engines, including ignition components, injection systems, and valve adjustments.
- Conduct load bank testing to ensure generators meet operating conditions and code requirements. Assist other technicians with large or complex jobs.
Skills and Qualifications :
- Excellent communication skills for providing verbal and written job status reports, repair recommendations, and equipment / supply needs.
- Must be willing to drive long distances and stay overnight in hotels 1-3 nights per week.
- Company covers hotel costs and provides a meal allowance.
- Work from home, ensuring proper vehicle maintenance, maintaining parts inventory, and securing company property, including cell phone, laptop, and tools.
- Handle difficult or emotional customer situations promptly and professionally, seeking feedback to improve service.
- Effective problem-solving skills in emergencies or with limited resources.
- Lift and carry objects up to 75 lbs.
- Move about on hands and knees or feet to enter confined spaces.
Education and Experience :
- High School Diploma required; Associate degree in an electrical or mechanical field preferred.
- Generac Power Systems certification preferred.
- Experience as a US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator / UPS field service technician is advantageous.
