Title : Seasonal Field Technician Supervisor (Seasonal position through November 30th with a potential extension through May 31, 2026)
Reports to : System Performance & Field Ops Manager
Location : Los Angeles, CA
Job Type : Full-time, Seasonal position, Non-exempt, 32 hours per week, Evenings & Weekends required
Founded in 2014, Bicycle Transit Systems (BTS) is a woman-owned business with a mission to operate bike share systems that create connections in our communities and protect our planet. We operate and manage a portfolio of bike share systems across the United States, as well as a nation-wide customer service call center. We are currently looking for an exceptional Field Technician Supervisor to join our Downtown, Los Angeles team!
The Field Technician (Tech) Superviso r is responsible for leading a team of Field Technicians that balance bikes, clean stations, maintain station & bicycles, and perform other essential tasks in the operation of the bike share system. The Field Technician Supervisor employs scalable strategy to run a cohesive team that prioritizes safety, communication, attention to detail, and sound decision making. They are a point of contact for their team and communicate policy changes, training, and aggregate feedback from their team to their System Performance & Field Ops Manager. They occasionally assist with station maintenance and repair, bike repair and other tasks that go beyond the role of a normal Field Tech. This position requires the ability to multi-task, establish priorities, complete assignments thoroughly and accurately, as well as communicate effectively with their team.
Core Responsibilities :
- Lead a team of Field Technicians and / or Cleaning Specialists
- Motivate the team to perform safely, efficiently, and accurately and give feedback where appropriate.
- Work under the guidance of System Performance & Field Ops Manager to identify, develop, and implement improvements.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Open and close warehouse.Write team schedule.Approve payroll and time-off requests for direct reports.Lead the hiring and training of new team members.Conduct Annual Performance Reviews for direct reports.Develops team to improve professional goals and meet or exceed performance expectations.Communicate with System Performance & Field Ops Manager and Fleet & Facility Coordinator about van issues.Ensure that Monthly Vehicle Inspections and other vehicle maintenance for fleet is completed.Receive continuous training from the Mechanic Supervisor, Lead Station Tech, and Deputy Operations Director on current best practices, procedures, and repairs. Train the team on those procedures, and ensure accountability and follow up.Audit Field Tech procedures, striving to improve effectiveness and safety of staff and fleet.Audit driver safety through Geotab, system metrics, Fiix, and feedback from Dispatch and Dispatch Manager.Work with Dispatch to set up best communication practices and task management.Continuously improve and develop processes for effective task distribution amongst staff on daily basis to ensure they are able to efficiently service regional bike share system.Work with other Operations Leadership to drive greater efficiency across departments to meet SLA’s and other timely maintenance of stations and bicycles.Occasionally performs the duties of Field Techs including, but not limited to : distribution of bicycles throughout system, monthly bicycle inspections, station and bicycle cleaning and maintenance.Support the company’s DEIJ (Diversity-Equity-Inclusion-Justice) initiatives, goals and objectives.Other duties as assigned.Daily Tasks :
Check Fiix for pending or late tasksCheck in with Dispatch for direction on prioritization for balancing, station maintenance, and other assigned duties and tickets.Clean stations when balancing or working in the fieldWhen out in the field, quick inspection of station (ex : Check Dock, digitizer, CC reader, etc…)Meet with each direct report to check in, give and receive feedback, and provide direction.Weekly Tasks :
Audit Fiix to ensure Field Techs are following established proceduresTake inventory of all suppliesParticipate in weekly meetingsApprove PayrollMonthly Tasks :
Meet with each staff member for a dedicated check in to give and receive feedback on performance.Re-order supplies for the teamAudit the field work of each team member and give feedbackAssist Bike Mechanics with Monthly Bike InspectionsOverview of Fiix numbers and Goals with site Operations ManagerParticipate in group meetingsHold a monthly team meetingEducation and / or Work Experience Requirements :
Valid driver license and clean driving record that passes insurance requirements for the company.Ability to understand and learn technical aspects of the software and the hardware capabilities and needs of a bike share system.Excellent mechanical skills, and some experience in bicycle maintenance and / or willingness to learn.Must be a team player with a positive attitude.Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn new software.Strong leadership, communications and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate a team to perform effectively, efficiently, safely while finding joy and meaning in the work.Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and can deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.Organized thinker, with the ability to self-direct under a high-pressure environment with changing deadlines.A strong sense of safety for everyday tasks.Sense of humor.Physical Requirements and Special Demands : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
