Job Description

The Harper Cancer Research Institute (HCRI) has partnered with a variety of hospitals to establish a comprehensive tissue biorepository to advance cancer research. The Biorepository Coordinator will play a central role in integrating tissue collection processes into hospital and physician office workflows. This includes coordinating surgery schedules, engaging with patients to obtain informed consent, and ensuring all regulatory and documentation requirements are met. The coordinator will also assist with sample transport, laboratory work, and the ongoing expansion of biorepository partnerships.

This position requires a motivated, detail-oriented individual who can work independently while also collaborating with physicians, hospital staff, and community partners. This individual should have superb communication skills and understand the clinical atmosphere of the biorepository partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the integration of tissue collection into the workflow of associated hospitals and physician offices.
• Obtain surgery schedules from physicians’ offices and coordinate patient identification for study participation.
• Directly interact with patients to obtain informed consent, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
• Prepare, track, and maintain associated paperwork (consent forms, clinical information, tumor type data, etc.).
• Safely transport human biological samples and documentation from hospitals to the HCRI biorepository, adhering to all regulatory protocols.
• Enter sample and patient data into the biorepository database on a daily basis.
• Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment, such as microscopes and histology instruments.
• Assist with laboratory bench work and tissue processing, as needed.
• Identify and recruit unaffiliated physicians and hospitals to expand tissue collection efforts.
• Collaborate with hospital and community partners to refine and improve tissue collection procedures.
• Maintain all required training, certifications, and immunizations in alignment with the University of Notre Dame and affiliate hospitals.
• Learn and assume new responsibilities as the tissue biorepository grows.
