The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Associate Director, Programs Management, is responsible for managing the cross-functional programs in the Columbia Initiative in Cell Engineering and Therapy (CICET).

Reporting to the Director of CICET, the Associate Director, PM, will assess, and build on, existing strengths at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, in order to implement new programs and initiatives that support cell and gene therapy development, including preclinical research studies, IND applications, clinical trial launching, regulatory affairs and contract negotiations.

Responsibilities

  • Operational and strategic management of Columbia Initiative in Cell Engineering and Therapy (CICET) translational programs, including but not limited to preclinical, manufacturing ,and clinical operations, workforce development, and financial management.
  • Establish structures for the cell and gene functional teams; coordinate stakeholders throughout these functional teams to support the strategy and execution of CICET activities;

ensure strong communication, accountability and establish clear goals / milestones and timely execution of activities.

  • Provide a high-level review of the CICET research activities on a regular basis to the executive leadership, oversee the annual budget and regular reporting to the VP&S / CUIMC central administration
  • Serve as a CICET liaison to stakeholders across CU / CUIMC / NYP and externally.
  • Develop a strategy for optimizing regulatory affairs support for IND and advanced therapeutics at CUIMC. Work with institutional leadership and research offices to optimize pre-clinical and clinical trial support for cell and gene therapies.
  • Working with the Scientific Director and the CICET leadership, facilitate new scientific partnerships in concert with Columbia Tech Ventures (CTV) and industry liaisons
  • Stay current with industry trends and updates related to cell and gene therapy
  • Additional duties can also include provision of business services interfacing with collaborators in the US and globally.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Cell and Gene Therapy and / or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of the translational science continuum for cell and gene therapeutics.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Adobe Acrobat, and Zoom.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks while maintaining responsibility for timely execution.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written / verbal).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience working with academic medical centers and / or Industry in the translational therapeutics pipeline.
  • Experience with FDA and regulatory boards for translational therapeutics.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise sound judgment and initiative.

Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
